If you think its known as the Lisburn Treaty well then this article could help you understand the basics of the Lisbon Treaty …
Did you know it’s the Lisbon Treaty Ireland is voting on the 12th June. Ireland is the only country in the EU to hold a referendum according to a Supreme Court ruling in 1987 that any major change to its constitution should always be put to the people.
The Lisbon Treaty will not change the EU dramatically but will ensure that the necessary reforms are made to make what works, work better.
Now if they Vote NO there isn’t a backup treaty and technically the EU will have to go back to basics but I would suspect that they will be left behind to fend for themselves along with the British who they literally fought with and in some ways still do to get back their independence. Let alone the issues with the six counties of the North.
The Vote No side seem to think they can ‘Get a better Deal’ (Sinn Fein) - what they don’t realise is that there is no better deal then they have got over the last 30 odd years. Europe has bent over backwards to accommodate the ‘Little Rock’ so much so they are the 2nd Richest country in the EU and 9th in the world http://internationaltrade.suite101.com/article.cfm/richest_european_union_countries
Also if you notice all the Vote NO side have always said to Vote NO against everything including Peace on the island until forced into a corner - helped by the Attack of 9/11 and the US war on terrorism I’ll bet.
The reasons to Vote YES are way too numerous to even start however I’ll give 5 reasons why Ireland should Vote Yes to the Lisbon Treaty:
1. THERE IS NO BETTER DEAL - THIS IS IT !!!!
2. IT DOESN’T EFFECT YOUR NEUTRALITY AND SECURITY IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM ….
3. YOU HAVE SEVERAL MORE VETO’s TO PROTECT YOUR SHORES THEN ANYONE ELSE ….
4. IF YOUR NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM ….
5. THERE WILL BE LITTLE OR NO CHANGES FOR THE MAN ON THE STREET…
In short if you don’t know anything about or don’t care DON’T vote - the worst one can do is Vote NO for the sake of it as you will be left behind with the UK.
If you want to do your country proud get with the program and thank the EU for you prosperity and growth since the 1970’s then VOTE YES (Business means Jobs) …..
Lets no forget that as a direct result of the EU there hasn’t been a war in Europe in over 50 yrs …..
Good Luck Ireland and remeber the polls are open till 10pm tonight.
Well what can one say on the 26th April 1986 at 1:23am the unimaginable happened.
The worst nuclear power plant ‘accident’ in the world which effect the world - what were the powers that be at the top of the Soviet Union thinking ?
For some reason they thought that they were so great that they could build the only nuclear power plant with no protective inner core in the world. Then when the nuclear power rods were very close to the end of their useful life decided to ‘demand’ a test so dangerous that they got in experienced workers (soviet puppets) to carry it out while a whole city Pripyat Ukraine slept. To make matters worse hid the whole incident from the world for 2 days only to be caught out by increased radioactive readings all over the world.
This was a level 7 in the International Nuclear Event Scale while Windscale was only a level 4.
I’m not surprised the ‘Soviet Union’ broke down within a couple of decades. - my disgust is that the rest of the world didn’t accommodate the countires of the former ‘Soviet Union’ break free alot earlier.
Below are a few links about this horrible incident which will be around to haunt us till extinction.
Only the Irish Rock Band U2 could come up with a new concept of concert going.
Ever been to a concert @ 10am in the morning and walk out at 11:30am memorised ?!?
Well I just have with their new concept in High Def 3D that is amazing and compared with Jaws 3D is seriously eons ahead.
I stand to be corrected but I think some 60mics were used and apart from 2 Live shows being filmed they also did 2 shows with no audiences so 3D Digital Cameras could capture the closeups.
Believe me the whole production is fabulous plus you see more then if you were at the actual concert and the graphics jump out at you without ruining the musical content/
Remember that old faithful game Monopoly well there’s a New World Edition coming out and you have a chance to vote for your city plus 9 others every day to make sure it’s included.
You also can vote to nominate a city not including as a bonus square !?!
Lots of Fun you may sarcastically think until you see where your city is coming then the National Pride comes out I can tell you.
Whats the catch - All you have to do is register…..
16 Days to go and Canada is in the lead plus I’ve seen Ireland drop from 10th - 20th place in 2 weeks..
Wow they must have had fun 50ish years ago I can tell you !?!
Can you believe it i awoke to hear that ‘Lego’ is 50 today …..
I distinctly remember annoying my poor mother for those little box sets when I was a child. Little did I realise how expensive they actually were but I think ‘Lego’ helped me and has helped hundreds of millions i not billions of not just children but adults alike, to learn hand to eye coordnation and lateral thinking.
Mind you I still have problems making the dam things
Here is the main offical info onthe brick supplied by www.lego.com
‘It was sold in 1949, and was called an Automatic Binding Brick. Like the modern LEGO bricks in your collection, this brick had studs which could be used to connect the top of one brick to the bottom of another. However, because the Automatic Binding Brick was hollow, constructions made with these bricks were a little unstable. This inspired the inventor of the LEGO brick, Godtfred Kirk Kristiansen, to spend night and day trying to figure out how to give LEGO bricks more grip power. Eventually he came up with a brilliant idea — tubes! The newly redesigned LEGO brick was born and introduced to the toy market in 1958. Since then, more than 2500 different LEGO elements have been designed, and over 327 billion LEGO elements have been produced by our factories! ‘
And in true stye they have a 50th Bitrhday kit out now called ‘Town Plan 10184′ which
Includes a letter from company owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, who appeared as a kid on the original Town Plan box and returns on this one!
Includes 3 gold bricks to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the LEGO brick!
Now what can I say a Ukrainian woman successfully sues Irish Newspapers for wrongly accusing her of being an underage Prostitute.
Well it’s that no wonder Ms Julia Kushnir wept as this the out of court settlement was agreed (Estimated at €500k). Apart from being the largest lible settlement in Ireland people fail to understand that in the Ukraine this is the equivalent of receiving €5 Million plus - given that a house prices and practically everything else is over 10 times cheaper then Ireland over there.
Julia could now run for very high office in the Ukraine or just live a life of luxury fading out of the limelight as quick as she grabbed it.
To be honest I hope that this windfall brings apart from anything, great happiness as this is more then any Ukrainian could dream of and is will teach the dirty press not to jump to unfounded conclusions.
Victory was not for Julia Kushnir but for everyone else whose victimized by the press.
This time it wasn’t just the tabloids but also the broadsheets when she was the ‘only survivor’ of a fatal crash in Russia with a disgraced Irish Politician Liam Lawlor, while acting as a translator only.
The four Irish Newspapers were – The Sunday World, Sunday Independent, Sunday Tribune and the Irish Independent – while the other was the Irish Edition of the Sunday Mirror. The Exact Damages were not disclosed in court however it is ‘understood’ that each of them paid out €100k.
Finally in respect to Lawlor family I hope this will give them some relief that his name has been cleared inadvertently of wrong doing, on this occasion.
So its that time again and yes it’s the turn of the faithful British.
So what hapened - basically the old baby used an old system at the beginning of the nuclear age where they didn’t pay much heed to provide adaquate accurate temperature measuring systems.
So not surprisingly one lovely brisk October morning a techie (not this one) was heating up the reactor however the instrumentation in the control room was so bad everyone actually thought the core was cooling instead of heating up. So to get a boost of temperature they withdrew the control rods which caused a nice can of lithium and magnesium to busrt and ignite the uranium and graphite to around 1300 degree centigrade which shot blue and black flames and smoke up the those beautiful chimmeys and into to our lovely atmosphere.
A great link from the news media centre of Lakestay.co.uk with great pics of the old girl
If things weren’t bad enough now it turns out that they even lied about how much radiation got out and now estimate it was double the amount they told us 50 years ago. Not to worry I reckon BNFL (British Nuclear Fuel) thought there is no way another Nuclear Plant would make such a bollox of setting fire to the most dangerous substance known to man and releasing it into the atmosphere (Little did they know). Sure weren’t they lucky the wind was blowing Northwest - apart from irradiating themselves they only hit northern European countires and it only got as far as Belarus (only a teaser for what was to follow).
I’m sure the board were saying wasn’t it lucky we didn’t hit the bloody black micks (slag for the Irish) or we would have had to give them the rest of the Island back.
Have a nice read from the BBC News - well done guys - ‘honesty is the best policy’
Now we should really give poor BNFL a break why they only made £2.3 Billion Sterling (approx €3.3 Billion Euro) for one year to March 2007 and if they had told the truth at the time you never know what would have happened
See the BNFL website for a few more ‘trusting’ facts and figures
Oh just in case you were wondering the can of lithium and magnesium can was doing in the reactor - it was to make the nuclear components the for the Hydrogen Bomb of all things and wouldn’t regularly be there - I’m sure we believe that !!!!
The Soviet Sputnik program consisted of four satellites, three of which reached Earth orbit.
Sputnik 1, launched on Oct.4, 1957, became the first artificial satellite to successfully orbit the Earth. It was a metallic sphere about 2 feet across, weighing 184 lbs (84 kg), with long “whiskers” pointing to one side, and stayed in orbit for 6 months before falling back to Earth. Its rocket booster, weighing 4 tons, also reached orbit and was easily visible from the ground.
It was the beginning of the ‘SPACE RACE’ as the USA got very worried about the U.S.S.R. being able to have something flying over their contient.
